hey guys - i have a brand new pair of the little Naiant MSH-1 miniature omni mics, with the nice mic clips, that i would like to give away for free to some deserving taper here. how do you think i should go about selecting the right person to give them to?
-
essay contest... 100 words or less. poem instead of essay?
mspaint contest... always fun.
local... that way you can always borrow them back if you need to.
[edit] you could just drop them into the "gear loaner" program indefinitely.
-
Kudos for the idea! You could always place them in the gear loaner section.
I definitely like the idea of some way to prove you're worth of these mics. It has to be somewhat fun too...
-
I'll try anything once and most things twice....! :o
-
i think haiku or mspaint contest is clearly the way to decide. :)

I suggest someone who is financially strapped. Either a young person still at school or an older person on a pension. Or someone from the 3rd world. Maybe an Iraki kid? That'll make a nice change.

I remember how tough it was as a grad student to get the gear I needed to tape. A good friend gave me his old CSBs and I will always be grateful for that (he also gave me his CMC-8s too later on, what a great guy). So give em to a starving student who wants to go tape some good local bands and the occasional national show.

Pain contest. Fo sho.
-
yeah - i was thinking about trying to find a good deserving starving student type. do any of youse guys know someone you would like to advocate for? i am happy to consider anyone who wants to write a haiku or other submittal to win the mics. i'm not going to string this out for long - i just want to give them away to someone who really needs them. thanks for all the suggestions.

roshambo?

I love making tapes
this band says I can't record
thank you stealthy mics...

Yup. That should end this "debate."

Anyone that has a theft loss should be 1st in line for free and/or gear gear to be loaned.
-
that would work for me. who is whataboubob, and how do we contact him?
otherwise, i have one guy entering the fray with a haiku...

I kinda doubt there's all that much music happening in Iraq right now, not to mention that I don't think I've seen many Iraqi's reading taperssection.

damn. I had a chance at the pain contest. Broken leg (metal rod inside) + (small) disability check. I'll be quicker on the essay's next time.
applaud your generosity on the mic giveaway. clap. clap. and more clapping ;D

+T for the kind offer

hi guys - thanks for all the support for this - you guys are fantastic, and this is by far the best forum on the web. i got messages from literally all over the planet about this. i have given the mics to a truly nice and deserving person, and i hope he enjoys them. i wish i had 3 or 4 more sets to give away, because i can tell from some of the responses i got, there are some other folks out there that surely could use some assistance from those of us who have so much when there are so many people around the owrld who have next to nothing. i urge you all to look for ways to spread the wealth we have, and so often take for granted. take care.

It's great what you've done Jim and this lucky person will pay it forward when he gets the chance. Now Just Trying to convince the wife to let me spend 19 bucks on the adapter cables to run to my batt. box, one thing at a time though right. I'll drop you a pm when they arrive.
This is a great community of people and I'm happy to be a part of it.

If 19 bucks is going to be a problem, you should probably get out of this hobby while you can.
Being very, very honest.
19 bucks is nothing in today's world, and usually how much it costs for shipping of gear insured on transactions you might end up making in the yard sale.
ymmv.

i'm on disability right now, so money is tight (very tight), but i'll be back to work in few months (hopefully).
20 bucks in "today's world" is not my world right now, 20 bucks (19) is something to me.
Not trying to hijack the thread or change it's purpose. Just wanted to thank Jim

i was not trying to be rude or anything, i figured you had special circumstances, but just wanted to remind you that this is an expensive hobby and you may need quite some time to get the ball rolling.
also, im sure you know, but concert tix are not cheap, i wish most of the shows i went to cost 19 bucks, or even 30 or less, but thats not the case many times.
other than the awesome FREE summer shows - then you are in luck!
edit: changing "are" to "are NOT"
