Title: 702 question
Post by: spreetaper on September 03, 2007, 04:52:26 PM
so just picked up a 702 today

im all good.. running mic in with phantom power - limiter on and getting levels etc..

just one question...
when i hit stop the device stops recording but levels do not stop..
the only way i can stop the levels from going is to turn the knob(s) down or mute the input
im probably just missing something .. probably very simple..

i would think if i hit stop the levels would stop.. but apparently not

assistance is appreciated

Can't turn 'em off unless, as you found, you mute them.

Turn that limiter off too.

As far as I know, the only way to stop the levels is to turn phantom off by sliding the switch on the side or going through the menu/shortcut

The box hears what is going on when it is not taping in addition to when it is taping.  This is nice if you want to find a sweet spot for your mics without having to commit it "to tape."  I like it.  As usual, YMMV.

Yeah, it's definitely an advantage of the 7-series units...

As others have pointed out, this is a feature.  It's always monitoring, which is the reason you can hit Record and have the recording start a few seconds before you pressed the button.

Let's face it, those "cheese heads" put together a great machine here.  I love mine, even though it is currently broken.  SD is going to make it whole for me.  Bless them!  I love this box.  Musicians love it.  They come by to put on the earphones between sets  and are amazed it is no harder to work than a Walkman, does << and >> superbly and, get this, records magnificently.  What a deal.  I think mine can even earn me some money.

Turn the meters to stealth mode. It's in the menu.

I don't know the SD 702. But I do know that a microphone can hear you whether or not you can hear the output from it. A sm57 laying in a drawer is vibrating with every sound it can hear.

This is the same with every preamp and microphone combo you can name. It's not hurting anything. It's just showing you the levels.

Turn the meters to stealth mode. It's in the menu.

this will also turn off all other lights and backlight - just a heads up when you look down and don't see a record light on - fantastic feature though
