Title: Rode NT5

Rode NT5 are 2 Acoustically Matched 1/2” Cardiod Condenser Microphone

I read about the Studio Project C-4's. Would they fit the Far Field criteria better?

I have recorded in different size rooms and have had success. Never ran them outdoors from long distance. They were my first mics and still have them. Don't know if I will ever get rid of them. If I do, I will probably put them in the yardsale and keep them in the family.

I agree with Charlie. I used a set for a Mule show in portland ( http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?t=28152 )and while they were ok they were a little thin and brittle sounding to me, YMMV. But, they are good in loud environments like a drum rack and for that the sharpness would sound nice. C4's for about the same, ADK A51s for about the same too or a LSD2 for a tad more money maybe? kirk

Yes, many users here use these mics and are very satisfied with the results. I used to run them and was very pleased with them, considering the price. They can be had for under $250 used, and more often than not, $200 used, which is what I sold mine for.

If I could afford some SMK140's I'd get those
but
personally I feel they are a great matched pair for their price

every one has their own ears
and it's all subjective
often at a given show
I may be the only taper

I like my Rode NT5's

what got me to get them was getting a digi-patch off of Charlie Miller's, NT2 onstage Rig at a SKB show at the Crystal in like 2001...

I'd rather have some multi pattern mics.
but the NT5's were in my budget at the time

I think for up front or onstage they are great

but they are what I have
so I dont' often get othere choices

I did get to share running Busman's LSD-2 (in a bulmlein configuration) which sounds awesome, but it is huge!

any how there is my 2¢
