Title: New DIY project: battery power for Beyerdynamic MC930
Post by: illconditioned on September 07, 2007, 10:04:45 PM
As some of you may know, I like to hang mics way up close to the stage.

I've also started using Beyerdynamic MC930 mics.

So, I built a "battery box" that runs the mics from two 9V batteries in series.  It provides "phantom power" but only at 18V through a 2.2k resistor.  This results in 12V on the mics, which is enough to power *these mics*.  (They have a dc-dc converter inside.)

So my setup is now: Beyerdynamic MC930 > 18V batt box > Edirol R09 (mic-in).  Here is a photo.  Note that there are no wires to worry about.  Just set the levels, hang it up, and start drinking.  Right now I'm using a 2' "tent pole" to hold the mics.  I'm going to get a telescopic pole, put a hook on the end, and use that next:
