I've been digging through some old electronics and came across some cheap mics that I used when I was trying to figure out taping 7 or 8 years ago... Now I'm wondering if I can salvage them for anything...

I have a Realistic 33-1065 stereo cardiod 50-15000Hz (popular with video tapers for some reason?)

A Radio Shack 33-3003 mono Omni

Both have "internal" power.

I also have a very small 2-point stereo mic, unpowered,  with a single clip (holds l and r mics parallel to eachother on one clip) which I assume is also from Radio Shack, but I can't find any identifying info....

I've been looking over the mic and batt box instructions from greenmachine over on minidisc.org, and was originally scrounging for parts. Now that I've dug these up... do they have any use in their current form? Is there a way I can ID, or at least get the specs off the unpowered mic (pattern, range...) Are there some good parts I can scavenge from these (aside from the 1/8" plugs)?

I have one of these mics!  Its a neat toy... 

I bet someone could replace the mics caps with something different...

terry, I had one of those, too. it uses 2aa batteries and has a flip stand.
I remember trying to record Modern English with it into a Sharp stereo microcassette recorder.
the microcassette docked into a boombox with a TV, oh the eighties and their boomboxes.

The 33-1065 only takes one AA battery. I couldn't help but open it up and take a  look inside... It has a small circuit board on the other side that takes input from the caps and outputs to the r and l 1/8 jacks. Any chance that I could turn this into a battery box? Is there any way to tell if the circuit would handle higher voltage (~9v) safely?

I think I'm going to buy a Realistic 33-1065.  The audio on the videos I have heard has been more then decent for video audio.

I had a friend that audio taped some really nice Rush shows with that mic.  Tough to use with a closed rig. I have no idea where or how he may have mounted it on himself.

It may be tough, but it still can be done.  At the last arena show I videoed, during the encore a REAL cop came and stood next to me.  I was shitting my pants.  I had my tripod and camcorder out.  I obscured everything well enough that all the staff just thought I was watching the show.  I didn't really care about the staff people, becase they wern't much older than me and wouldn't do anything, but that cop scared the shit out of me.  That said, he didn't notice and I finished taping the show. Afterward I pissed off the people  selling bootleg shirts outside.  The video is hilarious.
