ok i've got my 24 bit wav file set here. i drop 'em into flac frontend, set the output directory, hit encode and i get an error message saying that the files must be 44.1? can flac frontend not flac 24/48 wav files? TIA

Did you happen to use CDWAV first? If you did you have to check the 24 bit box before you save. Done that been there good luck and +t for your troubles.

yeah i used cdwav to cut the tracks and checked the 24 bit box. the files are fine but flac frontend doesn't seem to like the fact that they are 24/48. i guess they need to be 24/44.1?

Flac Frontend can definitely encode 24/48.
This is a long-shot, but it you did check the 24 bit box in CDWave (I've also made the mistake of not checking!), the only thing I can guess is that you need to get the latest Frontend.

Dennis - I just tested this to make sure it works, and it does: use foobar2000 to do the deed. I converted a large WAV file at 24/48 to FLAC 8 in 48 bit format. foobar2000 is free and rips, tags, burns and other stuff in addition to transcoding. And, it is free here: www.foobar2000.org.
Cheers

ok it's telling me error: file is 48 and needs to be 44.1 for sector alignment. what gives? boojum, thanks for the tip but i'd like to figure this out on the software i already have, especially since it should work.

Did you happen to upgrade your pc since last w/ the god awful Vista by any chance? If so I switched to traders helper and have decoded many shows since always at 24 48. Again good luck.

One thing that might be worth it to figure out your problem is d/l other software like suggested of choice and trying other flac decoder and see if it works. If you still have no luck you know its not frontend and a problem w/ the wav and you can keep frontend.

Uncheck Align Sector Boundaries!
There are no SBEs on 24 bit files.
-
Ya I never check "Align Sector Boundaries". What's the point if you use cdwav? I also was told a long time ago to never check that box no matter what you track with. YMMV
