I have an iRiver h120 and 2 AC Adapters. Neither of them will charge up my unit. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to disassemble the unit to try and reposition the AC input?
-
More info needed.
Is the green light coming on when connected to the charger? Is the flashing battery symbol on the screen when connected to the charger? Is this a unit you charged recently without problems?
-
Never had a problem until now. I haven't been able to power it up. A friend borrowed it and it looks as though the battery is dead. At first there was no green light at all. When I move the AC adapter around it will flicker, but I haven't been able to keep the green light on.

Uppers.

eow... that sounds like a broken soldering...
There are some good guides on http://www.misticriver.net/ (http://www.misticriver.net/) to help with opening up your player.

Ask if your friend tried to charge it for you (hopefully not with a Nokia charger)

Yeah, I called him, but haven't heard back yet.

OK. My friend called and charged it with a camera charger.
What can I do?

He's probably blown something inside. I don't know what to do to fix it but theres some people here that can probably advise you what to do.
-
you could ask the specs of that charger to verify his stupidity,
and tell him to start looking on ebay to buy you a new one....
-
He's already offered. I'll get the voltage.

I was afraid that was the case. Probably time to buy a new iRiver.
Sorry to hear that. +T for your troubles.

Most mistakes are not the voltage but the polarity....
-
Will the adapter itself tell the polarity?
-
Will the adapter itself tell the polarity?
It will usually tell the voltage & polarity on the area below the prongs that plug into the outlet. Like Petur stated, the reversed polarity is a killer.

Here's some info the guy got off the Charger he used.
Voltage: 11 Volts
.3 Amps Input
1 Amp Output
If this helps, thank you.

OUCH it's supposed to be 5V, not 11V - bad news I'm affraid...
was the h120 on or off when he did that?
If it was off, it might just be the voltage regulator and some small stuff. If it was on, the cpu is probably dead too.
-
He said it was off and he only had the charger in their for 5-10 seconds. When the green light wouldn't come on, he unlpugged it.
-
in that case it *might* be repairable.
-
Thanks. I have already ordered another, but would like to see if I can salvage this one.
-
He let the magic smoke out...... Sorry for that.
Check the stickies at misticriver.net in the forums. Maybe the hardrive DAP forum. The sticky was originally authored by user riverpietro...... Good luck!
You can part your player to offset "pain and suffering". How is your buddies search coming?

He is going to pay for the one he busted. I found one on the yard sale here recently, so all is good for now. Not too sure I can even fix it, if it is repairable. I am a HS football coach and my nerves are shot, so I know I won't be very steady with a soldering iron.
