Title: foobar experts > help with playback view
Post by: Gordon on October 02, 2007, 04:05:15 PM
so I've been using foobar for playback and tagging for a while now.  I've noticed that the playback view differs on both my computers.  never really thought as to why.  figured it was a simple setting or something.  anyway today I tried to see exactly what is going on.  using the same version on both computers.

as I'm looking at the settings I notice there are more options under preferences on the laptop, again same version of foobar.  no matter what I do with the settings on the desktop the playback view is different and not how I like it.  I reinstalled on the desktop with the exact exe from the laptop.  tried full, custom etc and on the desktop there are not as many options under preferences.  I'm guessing what I need to change the playback view is not there.  I changed the settings etc and nothing.  cleared out the registry settings etc and it still doesn't install the same on the desktop.   I thought it may be that the tags are different but it's not.  played the same files on both and they look different.

here are some screen caps

laptop (how I like it)

desktop

notice there are less options

Do you have the option for columns in one and not the other???  When you re-installed after using uninstall (right?!) did you also delete the directory??  If you had the columns option it might not have been deleted on the uninstall.  That is all I can think of off the top of my head.  Also, I do not use the columns option.

yes columns on one and not the other.  not even sure if that's what I need but yes it's one one and not the other and was that way before the uninstall.  like I said there are also more options under file on one than the other.  gonna compare the dll files and see if they are all the same.

My guess is that there is something in one directory that is not in the other.  That is the only way I can explain it.  Keep us posted; I am curious.

I think this is what's missing from the desktop system.

so I compared component folders.  there were 10-12 more dll's in one than the other.  I've never tweaked it out so they had to have been left from a previous version.  anyway I copied it and replaced the folder on the desktop version and it worked!  it seems it is the columns ui.  after I copied the folder and played a song it first asked to use the columns or general playback or something like that.

Glad you got it straightened out.  Foobar is pretty steady so I hoped it was something like what you discovered it to be.  Thanks for letting us know.  And happy listening.

those using foobar+digi out of a soundcard, dont forget to use kernel streaming to avoid windows double-resampling all your data
