Title: Levels and AT831 Lav with Samson UM1/77 UHF
Post by: jb3710 on October 04, 2007, 12:40:45 PM
I'm fairly new to all of this - I purchased a Samson UM1/77 UHF wireless system and a AT831 wireless lav (mini XLR connection). I plugged the receiver directly into a monitor/speaker we have (using XLR to 1/4 stereo connection). It works well, except I have to speak directly into the lav (literally at my lips) for the sound to be picked up by the receiver and output through the speaker. A few inches away from my mouth and there is absolutely no sound at all (not even faint) - which isn't very good for a lav mic!

Why is this? Is a mixer/amp required?

I have done this setup successfully with an older VHF condenser mic system.

Thanks for the advice...
