Title: Shure A81WS windscreen (what is the inside depth ?)
Post by: Javier Cinakowski on October 09, 2007, 12:07:41 PM
could someone measure the inside depth of this windscreen?  I think the inside diamater is 1".

Also, anyone compare this windscreen to the windtech US-1 ?  It is more expensive, but it claims to be acoustically transparent...

Inside depth is 2 1/8". It fits my 19, 20, and 21mm mic bodies but not sure the interior coarser material would stretch enough to to fit a 1" outside diameter body.

Haven't seen the US1 so can't compare it with the Shure.

Thanks guys.

unfortunatly the mic I am trying to squeeze in there is 1.25".  It is a round ball type mic like on a vocal mic.  I am going to jam the round ball in the screen and never take it out.  Then i would just screw the ball/screen on/off the mic when needed....

this is the mic, the screen part screws off....

Do a search here on ts.com for some homemade windsreeens and mic mounts using nerf balls, both round and footballs. Not sure how acoustically transparent nerf foam is but if you fabricate one and think it muffles the sound too much, you won't be out much money.
