When I connect my iRiver to my XP computer, I can play the WAV files directly from the iIriver. I can skip around and listen to any point of the recording. However, after I copy the file to my hard drive, I can no longer move freely throughout the recording. If I click on another point, the file starts over at the beginning. What's going on and how do I correct this?

what software are you using to play the waves?? is this happening in editing software (wavelab etc) or listening software (foobar, winamp etc)? or both??

are you playing back with Windows Media Player?
very common problem since v10 or v11
use foobar if you aren't already

Windows Media 10
After I use Audacity to do cuts and fades the files work fine so it's not a major problem. I just thought it was odd.

def a Windows Media player issue
its definitely an odd behavior but happens to me as well, i use foobar exclusively for audio playback now.
