Re-visiting R8Brain Free recently and came across this comment in the description:
Programmers can use standalone converter DLL in their programs free of charge.
Does anyone know of a way to use R8Brain Free as a VST / DirectX / plugin of some kind? Checking the API documentation, it doesn't seem like it should be too difficult to use the DLL in a VST wrapper or some such (says the not-nearly-geeky enough guy wanting to run R8Brain Free sample rate conversion within his Samplitude SE v8 workflow, instead of as a standalone process).

I just picked up Samplitude 9 SE. Perhaps I can get this working with a little extra time after work. Quite a good starting point of information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology

What are the limitations of the SE version that you folks have run across? I don't need any real time input/output to hardware with plugins but I was wondering whether the VST's I do have will be applied audibly in real time for monitoring purposes.

SE v8 (and I assume v9) will apply internal and VST plugins real-time for monitoring. As for limitations...if you do significant post-processing, SE's limitation of only 2 internal plugins + 2 DirectX/VST plugins per object may be an issue for you. I don't do much post-processing - don't have the time, knowledge / skills, monitoring environment, or desire to learn at the moment - so it's not a big deal to me. On the rare occasion I require more than the 2 internal + 2 DirectX/VST plugins, I apply the ones I want, export to 32bfp, then re-apply any additional ones I want to use. Not ideal, but I do it so rarely, it's not an issue for me.

Thanks! Maybe I'll try Reaper as well since the VST's are unlimited there. I don't do a heck of a lot in post but I do like to stack EQ's at times.
I've actually got an old Comply of Samplitude 5 that came with my soundcard, and I've been "Demo'ing" Sequoia but I want to pick one and make it official.
