Can anyone tell me how I can roll off lower frequencies using SoundForge 8, Audacity or Wavelab?
-
Im not sure what kinda plugins come with Wavelab standard but Im pretty sure you atleast get the steinberg Q. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/momule/temp%20pics/capture_18102007_173509.jpg)
This can be found under VST plugins. Simply select the "low" button and select your freq range by use of the keyboard or drag the little grey button next to the "Lo" shelf indicator. Drag it around till ya find what your looking for. If you could post a small sample I could better tell ya where ya might wanna start to correct/EQ it.
I used to use some SF back in the day but dont have it loaded so I cant walk ya through that. But the paragraphic EQ in SF will look kinda similar to this
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v234/momule/temp%20pics/capture_18102007_174450.jpg)
Simply make a shelf or just drag and drop a few freq's till ya find where your muddy sound is. More often than not in AUD taping there is a major low end rumble almost everything below 50-60hz could prolly go.
If ya wanna pm me I would be happy to help if ya have any other ?'s

There is some recent discussion of it here:

The version of SF that I'm using doesn't let me open an EQ function (nothing happens when I click on it) - maybe because it's a "trial" version?
I'm also using a "trial" version of Wavelab 5 and I can't find a section called VST plugins. I would have thought that an EQ function would be under "Tools" or "Process"?

You could always scrap all those "trial" apps and spend a measly $50 on Samplitude SE for better workflow and broader functionality. :)

Never heard of it Brian. Thanks and I may give it a try. I did figure out where EQ-1 is in Wavelab though. Thanks guys. +Ts

In wavelab you should see something like this. (except you wont have as many plugins listed)

Just select the plugin ya want to use and once ya find your flavor render the file with the effects inserted.
hope that makes sense

Brian - you really should get commissions! ;D

You're better off using a high pass filter to get rid of all that low frequency noise going on. Filters are better because they actually filter out all the frequencies you want, even a low shelf will just lower the volume of the problem frequencies but they'll still be present while inaudible (you're speakers will thank you).

Thanks - is there a HPF tool in those programs?

If there is it will be an option within a parametric EQ (like the Waves eq shown in an earlier post). I'm not familiar with the new soundforge but i'm sure someone else will know.
