does anyone know if the soundpro's caps are matched? i assume it matters? full compass? don't know any others that sell just the caps....thanks.

I would ask sound professionals if they match their caps. The difference is, if your caps are not matched then you will get an uneven signal on the left and right channels when running both at the same level. This is repairable with a pre with separate knobs for left and right, or in post. Of course it's always better if you signals are well matched right out of the caps.

Sound Pro's claims that their AT853 microphones are matched. However, if you buy just the capsules from them they are NOT matched. They drop ship everything directly from AT. The only AT gear that are not drop shippped are the AT bodies, as they have to modify them with the 1/8" plug... (the Sub Card caps are not dropped shipped either, as they are discontinued, sound pros stocked up on them)
That being siad, my capsules are all damn close. AT has very good quality control, I wouldn't worry about it...

According to Chris at Sound Pro 3 db difference is their tolerance for matching AT853's caps. I got this answer when complained about the 2.5 db difference at them this year on my new purchase.
