Title: LSD2 shockmount recs?
Post by: Teen Wolf Blitzer on November 05, 2007, 08:44:43 PM
Well I realized I bumped an Archive topic so I thought I should post this hear.  Referring to Nicks thread..

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,79329.0.html

It looks like the shock's loose a bit where Nicks broke.  Can anyone recommend a solid replacement shock for the lsd2?  Or I also read of the replacement part for the shock?  Is that offer still good?  I just don't feel safe running the mic in this shock for fear it's gonna break all the way.  Thanks for any help.

Just unscrew the whole bottom piece off the shockmount & screw it on your stand. Much more stable.

It works perfect for me. My bands are tight, don't have the sag problem.

What Kindguy says is the best way to go if you don't need to tilt it.

But, a couple months ago I contacted PMI through the support link on their webpage and they shipped me a replacement for free within days.  And mine wasn't even broken, just a PITA to keep tight.  The replacement is not ideal, but much more solid.

Cool.  Thanks guys.  I send an email to SP.  For now i'll just take it off the bottom piece.

And while I have your attention guys what do you store/transport your mic with.  I was thinking one of these...

Seem like the perfect size.  Thoughts?

I use a heavy-duty poster mailing tube that I cut down to match the LSD2 in length.  With the windscreen on, it makes for a nice, tight, padded fit.  But that tupperware looks pretty cool.

I like a nice single malt case w/a little padding.
:)

but, the windscreen works too.  just stuff the whole thing in the bag, and leave it on top.

I use a crown royal bag (handle bag) With the windscreen on, works perfect. Sits in it's own shelf in the sonicase.

If anyone needs a handle bag I can get them from my local watering hole. they have a basket of them in the back.

Yeah, the mount on the LSD2 sucks. I simply removed mine and attach it directly to the stand/clamp. I hated how all the weight of the mic rested on that one tiny screw. Bad design. I too wrote SP and they sent me a replacement at no cost.

I cut a piece of PVC pipe to length with a couple of caps.  Have the mic in two windscreens and wrap with bubble rap.  I'll post a pic if I get a chance.

When I owned one, I bought an extra windscreen from PMI and then used both of them on the mic at the same time when it was in my bag.  Together, they fit over the whole mic perfectly.

How much are the windscreens? Double windscreen is a good idea.

My mount was really pissing me off a couple of nights ago.  >:(  Hanging out over the balcony rail, I had to use the adapter to get the angle of the dangle right, but it wouldn't stay tight...  I've got to come up with something else at some point...  I think it's time for a six pack and a welder...

Have you written to PMI Audio and gotten the replacement piece?  My replacement stays tight just fine.

yes...but its VERY tight.
I had to bend mine open a little bit to make it fit.
I mean VERY tight.

the original LSD shockmount was better, and still available.  its the mount for the C series.

Is there an email to do this?  All my emails to Studio Projects have gone unreturned.  Over 6 sent.

When they replaced mine (which I think is the one SmokinJoe is using now  :P ), I went to pmiaudio.com and sent them a message through the "contact us" link.
They were very quick and helpful when I dealt with them through that contact.

Yeah, that's what I did too.  If that hasn't been working for you, PM me and I'll give you Justin Hyatt's email.

That part of it is fine.  The trouble I was fussing with the other night was just that the pivot point screw didn't tighten down enough to maintain the angle of the dangle.  It kept wanting to slip down so that instead of the mic being vertical it was dangling down by a few degrees, because the weight of the mic was naturally trying to unscrew that little screw (because it was upside down, rightside up it naturally tightens).  I'm pretty sure if I just tightened it hard enough it would have held OK, but there is always the possibility I might have broke or stripped it at the show.

I grabbed a generic LD mount off ebay for $20... I'm expecting to mod/cut/weld it as necessary.  I think in the end it will be ugly but bombproof, which is fine for me.  Then I'll leave the stock mount in the case.

Hey Mark wish I had seen this before I brought your pre back, I'm not sure but it looked like the LSD-2 was about same diameter as my ADK A51s, those shock mounts have been working out well for me, all metal no plastic.  You're welcome to try one of mine and see how it fits, Kirk

If you are having a hard time getting in touch with Studio projects...  Call this phone number...  310-323-9050  ask for Jered.  I'm not sure exactly what Jered's job is, but he seems to know what's going on, and I expect he will at least put you in touch with someone who can help you, rather than dropping the ball.
