Title: Sonosax XLR outs question
Post by: silentmark on November 13, 2003, 03:10:10 PM
I have been using the mini out > to rca in of my modsmb1 and while it works fine, I was thinking of using the XLR outs because of the better connections. I believe the xlr outs are balanced, would I be able to just run these XLR outs > rcas of the modsbm1 or would I have to unbalance first ? How would I do this?  :help:

Kinda strange that I have never thought of doing this before, but well now I am . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  :)

XLR                            RCA
Pin2 (+) --------------- Signal (+)
PIn1+3------------------Shield

there are several companies that make this type of connectors.

I've owned a few of these and I remember speaking to a few people that told me only run out of the mini as a last resort.   This below is from their site.

Balanced :  floating transformerless XLR, nominal level :+6dBu, max +20dBu 600 Ohms
Unbalanced :  3,5mm mini-jack stereo, nominal level : 0dBu, max +14dBu

They are balanced xlr out.  I am not sure what, if anything special you would need.

i would use the XLR out as well.  the original question was posed to change XLR > RCA.
he's going from a balanced > unbalanced connection.  might as well use the mini-plug if that's easier for him.
