Hi,
I will record a rock concert in a 12,000 people arena. My gear currently include the MM-HLSC-2 and the the new Zoom H-2 and a simple MM battery Module. I have also ordered a preamp but it probably will not be here in time.
So my choice is to record with Line-In and battery module or with the Mic-In (L/M/H). The line is said to have a lower noise level. However, since it is a rock concert, this might not be so important. If I use the Mic-In, should I risk to use medium sensitivity if I am not directly if front of the stacks? I know that the HLSC-2 handles even extremely loud sounds very well. So how important is it to set the levels in the H2 appropriately?
Many Thanks,
Tom Joad
The HLSC does not handle such high SPL as they make it out to be. I would go line-in using the battery box and adjust the levels from there.
Agreed. Line-in with the BB is what you want.
Line in is correct. Remember L/M/H switch has no function with LINE and #100 is minumum setting to #127 maximum adjustment range with H2 so best to start at #100 and work up if needing more gain.
Thanks for your advice :-)
Could it happen that I get too high levels and distortion while working with the unity gain at #100Th.

H2 LINE input maximum signal level (#100 setting) I measured to be -1.9 dBu which makes it unlikely to get overloaded by just your 9 volt battery powered small capsule microphone.
But will get easily overloaded with most mic preamplifiers without a 6-12 dB LINE input pad (in-series attenuation network) with the external preamp's output.
