Title: Broken H2 Line-In and upcoming shows: What to do?
Post by: Tom Joad on December 10, 2007, 04:12:54 PM
Hi,

Suddenly my 2 month old Zoom-H2's Line-In only records the left channel anymore. The right channel is dead for any reason. It has to be something with the input jacket since battery module and mics work fine on other gear.
I still have a warranty on the H2 and a replacement will not be a problem, but not in time.

But I have to tape two very important arena rock shows on Wednesday and Thursday.

My choices:
1) Zoom H2 Mic-In (reported to be rather noisy) with battery module and HLSC-2 (48/24)
2) Sony MZ-NH600 with Line-In and HLSC-2 (only 90 min and only 44/16  >:( , and yes, no display backlight)
3) Zoom H2 Internal Mics only ... nah  >:(

Should I take the line-in, although it has only 44/16, or maybe the noisy mic in with 48/24?

Thanks for your advice :)

Use Hi-SP on the minidisc - that'll give you 7 hours or more of perfectly good quality.

I "destroyed" 2 new ZOOM H2´s line-in ..sent them back and got the money back.
Also had the 1 channel-only-issue.
My Sony MZ-RH1 seems to be of top quality as it survived 2 Edirol R-09 and 2-Zoom H2 and 1 iriver H120 ;).
Nevertheless I´ll think the new Microtrack II or the Marantz PDM 620 are worth being tested ;).

At the rate you're going, that MTII and PMD620 don't stand a chance... ;)
