Title: Where can I find an SVU meter?
Post by: palmettobum on December 11, 2007, 09:34:11 AM
There are not many options out there, as I guess it's a discontinued product?  Found this one:

http://www.globalmediapro.com/video/products/BeachTek_SVU1_Stereo_VU_Meter--1745.html

and was stoked, until I found out that its coming from UK and shipping is $40 :o

So if anyone knows where to find one in the $100 range I'd appreciate it!

Check the yard sale frequently.  They come up from time to time, but are usually sniped within a few hours.  Good luck, and happy hunting.

hey andy
ive been watching out for one too.  while the svu1 is no longer being made, i think the svu2 is.  seems to be the same product, with slightly different layout.  i check ebay pretty regularly, but no luck.  if you see someone that wants to sell 2, pm me...Cd

Unfortunately, I don't see either (SVU-1 or SVU-2) being listed on the manufacturer's website anymore.

im running tonite at the poho.  ill probably just leave your cp4s up there, and clamp my pelusos on.  i wanna run hypers and drown out some wed. nite chas chatter.  hoping to get a sbd patch and runa post matrix.  but well get to that.  what did you tape recently??  isnt it sweet have those xlrs (baustins) up there all the time, so easy to clamp in relax in the back!

cd, very nice to have those cables available... if you dont mind, plugging those xlrs back into the c4s so i don't have to climb up on the ladder next time I tape (probably hackensaw boys saturday, or akil friday).

Anyways radiofreecharleston.com put on a 'mini festival' this past sunday, "Shakedown," 6 bands (including mine), all local.  Free food.  Great time, I got a couple of good otf matrix pulls.  good luck at machine funk tonight!

I've got something similar to this one that I found on Ebay. This one's a bit pricy though.

I ordered one through lentini, they just called me today!  2 weeks after I ordered.  Out of stock, back-ordered.   :P  go figure.

Backordered?!?!?!? The thing isn't made anymore. Is there a magic stash somewhere that this company gets them from?

A few months ago I was diggin' deep on a google search and came across a US company selling them. I tried to find the link but I must have deleted it. Search for it on google, but dig in to page 3 or 4 and you might track it down. Otherwise, I'd just ask the yardsale. It worked for me, although I scored a SVU-2 but I wanted one of those anyways.

Good luck.

Found an alternative, but it takes 1/8" in, not RCA like the SVU.  I don't really think it makes a differences one way or another.  But here are the specs

    * 1.5" wide LED display
    * Audio intensity range: -20dB to +3dB
    * Headphones adjustable from -40dB to +20dB
    * 20" audio cable with 1/8" stereo plug
    * 1/8" stereo jack for headphones
    * High input impedance
    * Weight: 5.5oz. with battery
    * Dimensions: 3.5" x 2.5" x 1.5"
    * Provides approximately 100 hours of continuous use with a 9V alkaline battery under normal use

119$ at B&H

any opinions??

Here was my latest effort to help you guys still in need on 01/24/08:

Subject: RE: Beachtek SVU-2 Battery Duration

Harry,

Many thanks for the information. I've been using the SVU-2 to monitor live
audio recording levels out of my digital recording device for a few years
and have had nothing but positive experiences with the unit. I appreciate
the superb customer service at Beachtek, the flawless performance of your
products, and I will make sure to recommend your products in the future.
Has there been any talk of a SVU-3 or equivalent since both the SVU-1 and
SVU-2 have been discontinued? I am a member over at
http://taperssection.com (messageboard for amateur audio recordists) and a
great amount of our members use your products (SVU-1 and SVU-2 to be
specific) for monitoring their live audio recording levels, similar
products are becoming more and more difficult to find.

Eric

His response:

Hi Eric,

Thank you for your positive comments.

We discontinued the SVU-1 and SVU-2 some time ago as there was very little
interest in these items. I am familiar with the taper site and realize that
some people could certainly use a device like this. However, we feel the
market may just be too small.

What specific device would you like to see? We are always open to
suggestions and can develop new products very quickly. We can even send you
a prototype if we build something based on your idea.

Cheers,
Harry Kaufmann
