So Im lookin to buy some mics in the next few months and I think I have it down to two mics: NAK CM300 or AKG 391. I've heard tapes with both that I really like. The NAKs are cheaper by more than a hundred bucks cheaper. The NAKs involve extra batteries and are older, but you guys all know about thoes 80s dead tapes! So Im kind of stuck on what to do, I like both, but Im curious how well the naks will hold up to the akgs. Im looking for your experence, not "buy what your ears like" ;) Opinions? Thoughts? Experences? THANKS!

I'd go with the 391. bear in mind, you will also need phantom power for the AKG's.
I may be selling my 391's with a PS2 in the next couple months(if I purchase a set of the MBHO 440s)

I would go with the 391s. I am a bit biased since I ran them (have a set for sale with the CK93 caps in the Yard Sale section!), but I just think they have a better sound than the Naks....in my opinion, with the hyper caps, they are the best mic in that price range sound-wise

Personally, I like the AKGs better. I find they offer better detail across the board than the Naks. The only reason I'd go with the Nak's is if you want to run 'guns for some reason (hopefully with a 3/4 mic mix to take the tunnel out of it).

Why go wityh the naks for the guns? You can get guns for the AKG's a lot easier than you can find guns for the naks.

Uhhhhh...b/c in my ignorance I didn't realize guns were available for the AKGs? Had I thought about it, I would've figured it out...but...I didn't engage my brain on that one. Thanks for the info!

I currently run Nak's and love them. I have the CP1,2,4 caps. I thought about purchasing the AKG's that are in the Yard Sale, but can't come up with the cash now that Christmas is around the corner. I think you would be pleased with either. Nak's take the Eveready 9v #206 battery whereas the AKG's need phantom power.

Thanks for the replys guys. I just got some extra money, so Im now thinking about the 391s now. THANKS!

go akg, better sound across the spectrum and best bang for the buck in there price range
