Title: Nak CM100 vs. AT853Rx - pros/cons?
Post by: sunjan on January 03, 2008, 05:32:20 AM
Hi all,

Someone over here is offering me a pair of Naks (CM100) for $50. It sounds like a bargain to me.

I run AT853Rx>UA5>H120 today. Would the Naks give me better sound in a non-stealth situation?

Also, would there be any point in converting them to Franken-Naks? AFAIK, the mod doesn't make any difference soudwise, the only advantage is to eliminate the bodies, making them more stealthable. But since I already have the 853s, I might as well stick to them. Or?

Thanks a lot for enlightening me!

/Jan

nothing wrong with 2 sets of mics. You pretty much got to listen to both sets up to see what you like, but I can say the nak sound is more "flavored" if that makes any sense.

If you are not going for stealthing, there is little reason to eliminate the bodies. Without the transformer, driving longer cables will be difficult. Better to replace the transformer with Schoeps-style output or a built-in amplifier. I would certainly be interrested in the CM-100....
