Just got back from NYE run in tx, New Monsoon. We did a matrix, mutlichannel recording, and i came home with part of the matrix. I have an aud and sbd that i am trying to open in wavelab, all the decks where tied into a word clock for matrixing later. now i can't seem to open the .bwf files??? any help?
i tried opening them through the "file > import special audio file" and what opened was unlistenable. also it seems to ask what to use to open file??
thanks

i did try to just listen to the show in wim amp as well, no luck.
-
on emore discription of what i got while trying to open file. it prompted me to give bit and sample rates
I had the P2 set for 24/48, does that mean set it up at just that or do the decimal points come into play at all?

there is a program that opens bwf files, it's a freebie. then you can split out the channels you want, render a sbd 2ch and an aud 2ch.
then matrix with wavelab, or just do the matrix in audigy (but i doubt you'll want to do that as the plugins are a Pain in the Ass and I don't believe the dithering supports uv22hr)
audigy, i think.....
search on ts.com for bwf. it's a problem that many have had with the 722/744t, as that is a broadcast format.
glad to hear you did it 'big'!!! folks we were with did a 6ch matrix which sounds unreal, from FOB.

is the 6 channel on digipanic? great time in TX. thanks for the help, i'll search around the net for a program to use for convertion
-
i did go back and surf here, no real luck, there are mentions of this, but nothing to tell me how to convert. so far i haven't run across any software to do this, plenty of other format conversions just not this one?

Broadcast wave files (.bwf -- or now more correctly .wav which is really what they are), can be split up using the fostex utility BWF manager:
http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/pro_support/pro_bwf_manager.shtml
Sound Devices also has a Windows piece of software called Wave Agent that might help you:

One more thing... you might also simply change the file extension of the files from .bwf to .wav and see if that fixes the issue.

thanks wayne
but is don't know wha tit is i am doing incorrect, but i can't seem to get either of those to work.
the bwf manager doesn't see to wan tto take the bwf files. and SD wave agent doesn't see to want to convert them, they just saved right back to bwf
if you can think of anything i might be doing wrong lmk, otherwise i just keep trying
thanks, and plus t for pointing these out

i converted the bwf to flac, then decoded and they cam eback as wave files. i guess this will work out fine. i also guess i lose the time code, haven't gotten that far yet
-
What Version are you using? Steinberg claims that All versions of 6 support the BWF format.

that logic is flawed and you arent going to be sure that they are mixed correctly. what i'd suggest is to open them in audigy.
disable two tracks and then output the file - this will be the SBD.
then, switch which tracks are disabled - output the AUD.
i've never had luck with the fostex utility. basically you have a bwf file, which is 4mono files together.
-
flawed, maybe, but i was sick of trying other options. i could tell which were the aud vs sbds. it took way longer then it should have, but it seemed to have worked out for what i wanted, just the aud going up for now to bt.etree.
oddly enough i came back with a bit of the flu, imagine that, hanging out in airports and at two nights with little sleep hanging out with a bunch of "dirty hippies"
so my nevers are a bit shot, this really did seem to work out good enough.
as far as SD, it said beta version? and i didn't see an option for bwf?
I am sure if i took more time i'd figure out a better option

You may want to download a Copy of Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm/) for free. It definitely supports the format and will do what you want. Though learning a new interface is never fun.
