Title: Sonic PA 6LC3 question
Post by: flipzoso on January 06, 2008, 10:30:29 PM
Im a relatively new taper, I havent taped any super loud bands so I always left the bass filter on the medium setting and things have been great. But I will be taping The Mars Volta soon, and I was wondering if I will need to increase or decrease the rolloff for their shows, as they are a LOUD band. Also I actually dont have the indicators for which direction is increase/decrease so if I do have to use it could you perhaps tell me which direction is to up/down.

(hope that last part made sense)

You should be fine, bass isn't that much of a problem when taping them. If you still think it is too much bass in the final recording you can always roll-off more in postproduction (e.g. using parametric EQ) - but you can't add what's not there to begin with (without adding noise), too much roll-off can make for recordings that sound "thinner" than desired.

Not familiar with your SS box so I can't offer any insight on that but I'm pretty sure there is a table found at this link: http://www.sonicstudios.com/pa_x.htm

If module is older type like shown above, then filter 45/85/120 cycle slide switch 120 cycle (the most aggressive bass reduction) setting is far right position, in other words, towards module end without the cord, at + AA battery terminal end.
