Title: Looking for info on these mics
Post by: cgrooves on January 11, 2008, 12:11:19 PM
I have a set of these mics:  http://audioreality.com/ (http://audioreality.com/)
from years ago, and was wondering if anyone knows this guy's work and/or can tell me what capsules are being used.

I'm thinking they may be Panasonic MCE-2000's or WM61A's.  I would just like to know what I actually own.

I've only used them once (I'm an open taper), but I thought they sounded pretty good.

Thanks!

This sure does look like raw Panasonic caps made into a stereo pair.  I say this due to the photos on the linked site using bulk length heatshrink and the silver of the capsule peeking out between the H.S and the screen cloth of the capsule.  Thats just from firsthand experience with the same parts in quick jobs.....

What you don't know is the EXACT model # of the capsule, nor the EXACT manufacturer even.....

He does say he previous companies business was audio measurement tools.  So he may have sources not available to us. Maybe....

Yes they are Panasonics... I know because I asked him!  ;D
However when I asked what model they are he didn't answer that even though he replied to my e-mail.

I have heared a few samples of those mics and they sound pretty good. What I would know though is how they differ from core sounds mics. They might be made from the same model of capsules so...
