i currently use a sony ECM-MS957 and just got my church audio st-9000 in the mail. i was wondering if they would be a good combo together. im somewhat of a noob, i dont know if its ok to use the preamp with a mic that already has battery power, or does it just give it more power? my first recordings from my NYE run were a little quiet despite the levels being normal on the JB3. so im hoping the addition of a preamp will solve that. any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I'm sure Church himself or boojum could comment on this. You might be interested in reading boojum's previous post, he runs the same mic as you:

I tried running a similar Sony mic (ECM-909A, 1.5V internal battery) into my JB3 once, but the signal was way too low, the gain of the JB3 insufficient and the AD noisy. it was a bad combination.
You should achieve much better result with an external AD in the chain (which is why I upgraded to UA5 and only use the setup for non-stealth these days)
+T for starting out!
