Title: Extended Warranties -- Worth it? (PCM-D50)
Post by: arrowman on January 16, 2008, 04:30:38 PM
Hey all,

Long time listener, first time poster.  Love the site.

I'm fairly new to recording.  I've own a MD-recorder, but don't use it much these days.

I just bought a Song PCM-D50 from Guitar Center.  I had to return a guitar, and ended up just buying the D50 because it seemed so cool.  Of course, like everything the D50 has a 1-year warranty.

Guitar Center offers an extra 2 years of full warranty (even if I accidently drop it) for 70 bucks.  Any thoughts on whether this is worth it.  I don't intend to drop it, but how often might things just break beyond the 1-year warranty.

Thanks for any help.

the Sony units have been pretty care free in the past. Also, usually some good folks do repairs on these when they go off warranty. I'd pass on it, myself. Just my opinion......

It is insurance like any other insurance.

I'd self-insure and save the money. Sony is built to last. I owed a D3, D7, and still have an M1 with very few problems and if something came up, it was well after any extended warranty would have expired.
