This question is abit similar and related to my last question, but anyways...
Let´s say you and a friend sometimes record the same rock concerts. You have the following mics you can use:
a, MM HLSC-1 cardiods with low sense mod (2x sennheiser MKE40 capsules)
b, MM HLSO omnis (2x sennheiser MK2E capsules)
c, SP CMC-8 (hyper capsules) with low sense mod (2xAT 943 or AT933 capsules)
d, SS dsm-6 (binaural mic)
Given that you have the same recorders and batteryboxes and stand next to each other at the same place what 2 mics do YOU think would be the best to choose for best possible results given the following situations:
1. Small rock clubs with low ceilings (given you have the mics a,b,c to choose from)
2. small rock clubs with low ceilings (given you have the mics a,b,c,d to choose from)
3. Big indoor arenas/stadiums in front of the soundboard (with a,b,c)
4. Big indoor arenas/stadiums in front of the soundboard (with a,b,c,d)
5. Big indoor arenas/stadiums but far back at some seats (with a,b,c)
6. Big indoor arenas/stadiums but far back at some seats (with a,b,c,d)
7. Outdoors (your typical festival show)
Hope this was not too many questions! ;) Just curious to see what people think about this and if there is consensus or not!
Thanks!

I would suggest the MKE40 and AT933/H.
Church STC-11 would do well too as Chris has mentioned that his cards are not far off from a Hyper pattern.

Really!? Not using omnis for any of the situations I described?
(would like to bump this thread at the same time! ;) )

Omni's would be nice but to be honest imo, they don't work as well in loud rock/metal music as they do for more quieter music (acoustic, jazz, etc...).
For the situations you described, cards will do a better job imo. Of course that does not mean you wouldn't pull a nice tape with Omni's.
For small clubs with low ceilings, you want to try and hug one of the stacks and use the MKE40's. Omni's would work well in this situation too but *might* be quite bassy due to the type of music.
For Arena shows near the soundboard, the AT933/H should do the trick. Although you could run the MKE40 again.
For Arena shows where you are at the back, I would highly suggest the AT933/H to get a better sounding recording.
Of course, its all my opinion and you could run anything you want and could pull a great tape.

Most of the best stealth tapers atleast seem to prefer omnis. If you look at what mics people who pull great recordings are using there´s really very few ones that you see 95% of the times (OKM IIr, SS dsm-6, csb, DPAs (all omnis!)).
most popular cardiod mic used by good tapers last decade seem to be the AT 831b.
But the omnis are in majority for sure.
I can´t recall many nice sounding recordings except for those AT ones that where made with cards.
Maybe the omni dominance is about to change as the cards from Chris Church, Sound Professionals and Microphone Madness all seem very popular.
