Title: Results with the Edirol RO9
Post by: SoulBoogieAlex on January 22, 2008, 03:04:29 AM
I bought the Edirol RO9. I'm going to break it in tomorrow at a Rock concert. What settings should I use to get the best sound with the internal mics?

Thanks again.

Level setting is what you are looking for. If you adjust the volume, it's not what you want while recording.

I recorded yesterday with the Edirol's internal mics. Above you can find the results. I had the Edirol at the lowest possible level, but still lots of peaks. I was pretty much in the front rows. I wonder if it would have been better to stand further in the back?

Did you use Mic Low Sen? If you did you were not have problems with your levels.

Do you mean the gain on the back? I just checked, I had that on high. I only got the Edirol two days ago, still trying to figure it out as I go along.

for the future, just try this:

start with the settings

-hardware switches on the backside:

[AGC] off
[low cut] off
[mic gain] low

Then see if you can get levels up to -12 ... -6 dB without turning the input level too high. Only switch [mic gain] to "high", if you really need that gain. Recording rather loud things in the "high" mode can lead to problems in form of overloading the input stage.

If you feel that there might be too much bass around on the show dont hesitate to turn [low cut] on. It will help to reduce the probability of overloading the R09s input stage by recording unnecessary loud bass frequencies.

Yes, that's what I mean. In the real world you'll never need "High Sens" to tape live music. Also, stay away from the "Low Cut" unless you want to have a lifeless sound on the end.
Take care ;D
