Title: laptop help

i need to purchase a laptop for my 17yr old. she is a senior in high school and will attend collage in fall. i know nothing about laptops, and could use the board's help. it's a birthday present, so i can't ask her help. i figure price range of 600-1,000. thanks in advance, mike

That'd be one of me recommendations, for sure. If you know what school she will be attending, you might want to check if they have any "minimal requirements" for software.
