Here is a chart comparing the physical sizes of some digital recorders I was interested in. I got the idea from Brad Linder's blog. They are listed in decreasing length measurements. So, although the H2 is bigger than the Yamaha, it is the shortest and ends up at the bottom.
"HEIGHT" actually refers to the thickness of the unit.
I didn't bother to convert all the metric weights to ounces, but it was interesting to see that the Sony with four AA batteries is over 6 times the weight of the Yamaha with one AAA battery.
The Zooms' specs don't include the battery weight.

I just weighed some AA batteries - about 40-45g per pair (which is what the Zooms take). A significant addition to the 110g H2 - but it's still the lightest after the Yamaha.

it could be interesting to throw others in there like the FR2-le, pmd660, pmd671, Hdp2 etc.
nice chart.

Here's a version with a few more models added. These are only hand-held, solid-state models. If anyone wants to add others, I've attached a CSV file of the spreadsheet I used to generate this (as a TXT file because attachments are restricted by file type).
I maintained Doc Spider's sorting criteria, except I couldn't bring myself to list the mysterious Dynasonic first.
