Title: how to set up MicroTrack for line-in recording--cables question
Post by: piattj on January 30, 2008, 10:27:13 AM
I want to go from a tape deck (rca jacks, left and right) to my MicroTrack (trs jacks, left and right).  I looked on NewEgg.com, but I can't find the appropriate cables to do this.  The closest thing I could find is a cable that has 2 male RCA jacks on one end and a single 1/8" male jack on the other.  What I want is a single RCA jack to a single trs, and I want two of them.  Is this right?  Please help....

You want RCA > 1/4 TR - its already unbalanced, no need for TRS...unless there is some idosyncracy with the MT line in - that should be fine.

What he said. TS plugs will work fine with the MicroTrack. I've used them.

Get 2 cables like these and you should be fine:

Would those cables work for patching into a sounboard, via RCA into the MTI? I am assuming so....

I never do soundboards, but they should work unless the MicroTrack can't handle a soundboard feed without some sort of attenuator. Hopefully someone else can chime in on this.

If nobody confirms that it will work, try starting with the the L/M/H switch set to L and the levels as low as you can set them. If the meters still go over 0 DB & the clip indicators are lighting up, you need an attenuator. If they aren't going over, you can increase the gain as appropriate.

i have used the MT verI out of tape outs of a soundboard, but I used homemade cables with a -20db attentuation.

here is a copy of the show on LAMA:
