Title: speaker cable opinions?
Post by: goodcooker on February 04, 2008, 06:20:58 PM
A few people have asked me about making up some speaker cables out of some milspec 10awg wire and I wonder what kind of terminations are common on all yer high end playback gear that you guys are using.

I don't want to get into a big silverclad vs copper hoohah...I'm really more interested in the terminations being used.

My playback is pretty simple, ART SLA1 amp (though I have an eye on a Meyer with way too much juice) and a pair of Klipsch Heresy IIs.

So spades, bananas, bare terms, those  braided dealies, speak up.

I had bananas...  Hated them...  Went with bare-wire...

I have speakers which accept both banana and bare wire and some that accept only bare wire.  So it is bare wire for me.  That used to be the "hip" thinking, too, as you could trim back the cables from time to time to expose "fresh" copper.  Ah, high end audio.  ;)
