Title: Few Questions About R09
Post by: Splash on February 08, 2008, 01:23:36 PM
Im looking to get into recording live music and am about 95% sure that im going to buy the Edirol R09.  The main reason is because im a begginner and the amount of information(what settings to run, what mics and pre/bb work well, tweakings to make) that i can find on this site alone about the R09 is very helpful.  I just have a few questions about it:  The peak light on the front lights up when there is clipping or a signal overload, correct?  I also see that there is the 2 channel meter on the screen.  Im guessing the clipping occurs when the levels are high enough that the meter reaches the end?  Also, I have read that there are/were problems with the Mic and Line in inputs coming loose.  For anyone that has recently bought one, is this still an issue?  I guess tieing in from the last point, im not sure if i should get the extended warranty.  How durable is this thing and have there been anyother breakdown issues that i havent read about on here?  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks

Yes.

Yes.

Not really a problem anymore. You have 12 months warranty anyway, so...

How durable is this thing and have there been anyother breakdown issues that i havent read about on here?

No known weaknesses apart from the early issues with the mic-jack. Even the transformer-like battery door that gave everyone a fight seems to have been robust.

Look, it's a tiny plastic recorder. It's not going to withstand rough abuse...but if you look after it like you care about it, you should not be let down eitther. I use one in the field and have done so for about 2 years now. Solid as a rock...plastic rock :)
