I taped a comedian, Raymond the Amish Comic, recently and was wondering how to remove an underlying hiss in audacity.

Effects > Noise Removal
You need to find a few seconds on the recording where its just the noise...select - and use that for your noise profile...
Then play with the slider - I found it worked best at all the way to the left on the "Less" setting...
if you can't get it out, feel free to send me the file and I'll run it through my cube tec vpi's.
