Title: TSKB: Painting my mic...
Post by: J.T.L on February 10, 2008, 01:55:53 PM
For those not familiar with the Peluso P Stereo, here are some pics...

...I love mine and really don't see myself selling it anytime soon. With that said, I want to make it more low profile for onstage and dark fob situations...I want to paint it black. >:D I also don't want to cover it in gaffers tape. Now I don't think I have it in me to personally gut it from the shell for paint so I am at the head-scratching phase of this project. I would like to have it all flat black, even the chrome parts and the mesh but done well so it won't chip easy. I have an unanswered email into Mr. Peluso about this topic but also wanted your thoughts. I am open to ideas on how to get this done...thank you.

I think the ideal would be to remove all the guts and powder coat the shell black....

Other than that, I don't know....   If you got a industrial lab marker in black you could marker the thing...

I agree you must remove all of the electronics.. and put them in a very safe place because the capsules can be very easily damaged, with little to no effort.

I'd say to black anodize rather than powder coat. The powder coating will close up the mesh whereas anodizing won't. This also involves removing everything and assumes the shell is metal.

Won't this cause you to lose the markings for you switchable polar patterns?

White paint, super-fine brush, magnifying glass, and my painter wife will fix it but I know them by feel.

JTL - even though you know them "by feel" it is a real good idea to have your wife mark them.  A real good idea.  Always mark stuff that has to be aligned a certain way.  I learned the hard way.  You have a choice on how to learn.  8)

Well, if you get it black anodized, you could always laser mark it after the fact. Might as well go all out! :)
