Title: recording onto my g4
Post by: Rev. HBO on November 25, 2003, 12:20:42 PM
what all do I need to get? I know I need a digigram pocket V2 but what else? I have nothing right now, and am looking to put together a decent rig, but I'm not loaded. I just want good tapes, not the best tapes.

I actually have mics, Oktava MK 012a's.  will I need a preamp? maybe need is the wrong word, will I want a preamp.  do I need special mic cables?  I use regular xlr's right now. my rig now is my mics into a yamaha AW16G digital 16 track recorder. some times we matrix it, but useually we just use our mics.

Rev - if you're taping onto a computer, you don't NEED the VxPocket...that's just one option. There are many other devices out there that will let you get an audio signal digitally into your computer. A device like the Edirol UA-5 can act as a preamp and power supply for your mics, and can also output signal via its USB connection to your G4; I use an Esi-Pro U2A which lets me go S/PDIF in, also over USB. Depends on what kind of connections you need, and like Damon said, how much you want to spend for certain features...

okay so the edirol will cover that.

So I'll have my mics, A/D, Pre-amp, computer.

What is the best software for mac, I know I'l be spending around 400 dollars. Any suggestions?
