Title: Belden 1508a microphone cable
Post by: Chuck on February 20, 2008, 08:17:14 PM
I have the opportunity to buy 100' of Belden 1508a wire for a good price. It's two conductor plus ground, foil shielded microphone cable. It's very small diameter and very flexible.
Just wondering if anybody has used it. If so, what are your thoughts?

I believe that is what Ed uses for his "Stealth" cables.

Edit: I stand corrected

I believe Ed's Ultra Stealth cables are Belden 1503a.

There's a local surplus wire place that has about 100' that I can pick up for .15 per foot.

It sure looks nice. Just not sure how it holds up or how it sounds.

can't go wrong for the price.  try it out!

MUCH better than the $114 I just dumped on 1804a !

Ya but the 1804a sounds cleaner IMO and worth the extra $ IMO.  Maybe Boa will chime in with his opinion also. I know he likes the cable.  Thats what makes up the "phatcables".

I got 250' for $.09 per foot! I bought all they had left. It's very nice to work with. Its strips nice and clean and is very flexible.
I decided to make a 50', balanced, two channel snake. I'm going to install it in a local club, so I can clamp to the ceiling in the sweetspot.

I decided I really dont care for the 1804a vs. the millspec wire I use normally.  the "rubber" coating of the conductors is flabby, and melts very fast.  the shielding is wuss ...

like the nice black coating though

Putting 1/8 techflex over the 1804a really beefs it up and ruggedizes it in a nice way.

I was comparing specs between the 1508a and 1804a and recall the min bend radius of the 1508a was a fair bit larger.  Maybe because the foil shield is less durable?

I put 1/8" techflex over the 1508a snake I made. Though I don't plan on moving it much, I thought it would be much more durable that way. I'm installing it for the Railbenders/ Supersuckers show at the Black Sheep tonight. I can't comment on the bend radius of the 1804a as I only have 1508a. I will say that I wouldn't want to go any smaller in wire gauge than the 1508a.
