Title: Sony Mini DV DCR HC37E anyone recomends these?

It would be fine for home movies.  You could film concerts with it if that's what you want to do but it would still look like home movies.

taping gigs! the picture isnt good? there are other mini dvs with better picture? the guy from the store told me with these model i can transfer what i tape with USB. is this true?

You should transfer via firewire.  Some cameras I believe don't transfer the full size video when using USB.  Firewire guarantees you'll get the exact video you shot. 

If you're on a budget and can't afford to spend more this camera will do what you want but the picture won't be mind blowing.
