Thinking about switching it up, selling my T+UA5 & modding my 671.
Thoughts? Opinions?
-
do it. dont look back. busman now mods these too.
-
Any idea what the ACM runs these days? $300 or something I think?
-
i dont remember. i do know that the busman mod is sub 200. i also know that if you sell the ua5, you will have enough for either.
-
I'm sure I'll go the Oade route- nothing against Busman, but the unit came rfom Oade, so I might as well take advantage of that.
I'm guessing it can't be done in 18 days though, so it will have to wait until after Europe.
Thanks Dre. +t.

the only reason i went with bus over doug for our fr2le was the warranty and the guarantee that chris will be doing benchwork alot longer than doug will be.

I have no experince with the 671 but the T+mod with Schoeps is great. I have been mulling hard whether to get a V3 but everytime I think about the T+ it is hard to beat. The connectors on the front is super convienent, optical and coax out, super duper clean.....don't hear any noise until the very last fraction of the dial. Serious gain ability, like Tim said. Ran it 16bit truncated and 24bit.
I like the T+ b/c I think it is easier to stealf with (though I never ran a V3 in the waistpack before). I have pulled it a few times and it really is amazing.
click these links, tons of Schoeps T+ stuff in there me and chucky did here in Japan.

The Nagisa stuff is pretty nice (Razoku an Sun Paulo), but there is alot of background noise from the other stages when it is dead quiet. The recording is more representative of what it can do in terms of detail. I have classical recordings with the T+, if you want the link to megauploads, just search in Kickdown.

the T+ mod is only 24 bit output ?
that is news to me. I thought the little "advanced" switch on the rear engaged 24 bit over 16 bit. Is that disabled by the MODs ? Shouldn't be. He does nothing w/th A/D stage.
One of the cool things w/the UA5 (although this might be moot w/the mods as they could affect this) is that it is a pretty decent DAC as well.
that might not work after the mods though. I dont remember. its been a while.
If price is a factor, then T+UA5>MT2 is considerably less than an ACM671.
IMO....
the fostex fr2le is where its at. $750, brandy spanky new and modified to either the HI-DEF or WARM flavor.

it was figured out that the ua5 only outputs 24bit the advance switch is really only effecting the 44/48/96
if you want to learn more its all in the team ua5 thread

i agree w/ nick. get a modfr2le and have a kickass all-in-one for very cheap

Eh- I just finished learning just about everything I can about the 671, dunno if I'm ready to start all over again with another box. Besides, I really like the 671 a lot. If I'm gonna go with an all in 1 (and at this point it looks like I am), I'd prefer an ACM 671. Also, with the 671 I retain the option of running an outboard pre/a>d.
I think after this Biscuits run I'm gonna send both boxes to Doug, get them checked out (figure out why there is such an issue between the UA5's coax out & 671's coax in), and have him mod the 671 at the same time. The option to run T+UA5>671 or mics>ACM671 is pretty nice, and not a big deal price wise.

i would get the 671 modded as well. just never heard an ACM w/ Schoeps, thats all. im sure it sounds great
