DAT-> 744T Digital Transfer Issue
« on: March 08, 2008, 06:52:26 PM »
I'm having some problems trying to transfer some old dats. I'm transferring them going coax in on my 744T.  For a few recordings, I'm getting what looks like dropouts on the 744.  Just a few seconds with no signal.  There aren't any dropouts on the master recording, and they don't repeat themselves in the same places in the file when I redo the transfer.  I switched my coax cables twice and the BNC>Coax adapter as well.  No luck resolving it.  It seems completely random.  It's like the 744 just loses the lock on the signal.  Has anyone come across something similar?

Try formatting the 744. I might also double check your settings in the menus. There could also be an issue with the digi clock out on your DAT machine. Try a digi connection from another DAT player or from your home stereo and see if you can reproduce the error. I had an issue in Athens the first night where the digi signal on 3/4 crashed, but analog 1/2 were fine (minus a small error). If you find that the problem is reproducible using other equipment let SD know. Charles and I both have experienced this problem when running analog and digi (I know you are just doing digi, but it might help to pinpoint a bug).

I actually just updated the 744 driver software, mine was a bit outdated and the first transfer I just did came out fine.  So maybe that was the issue.  If it happens again I'll try reformatting.  Unfortunately I only have one DAT player to test it on.  One too many these days probably.  Hopefully the driver update resolves it.

Side note, you should make the run up to DC for DBT @ 9:30 in May. They destroy that venue.  A two night run should be pretty sweet.

I am dyin' to, we'll see what cards I am dealt around that time. I do not have anything going on for those few weeks. I have to go to TX for a wedding first weekend of May. Chattanooga DBT Thursday night then drive to Nashville Friday morning to catch my flight for the weekend. I can't complain that I get a Truckers show in 6 days and a Patterson solo show in April and more Truckers in May! Life is good.  ;D

I figured you were running firmware 2.40. Shame on you. I betcha that fixes it. Good Luck.

Yeah I was always a little hesitant to upgrade the firmware because of bugs being introduced.  It worked fine for recording in the field and did everything I needed so I figured to hell with upgrading.
