Nakamichi CP-3 ?'s
« on: March 11, 2008, 06:19:49 PM »
Basically my question is what the hell is "pinpoint omni" AKA the CP-3 cap. And also, does nakamichi offer hyper caps for the cm-300's? Thanks in advance.

CP-3s are pin point omni caps (smaller diaphrams) which as a result, increase the high frequency response dramatically, these are the caps to use when using the CM-300s for split omni work or as a center channel with the MX-100.

CP-4s are the shotgun interference tubes caps that allow for super directionality...the 'super-hyper' caps for the CM-300 system.

So then there is a pretty drastic difference between the cp-2's and the cp-3's??? I love running splits outside at festivals. If The cp-3's (pinpoint omnis) are more suitable for this, why not just make the regular cp-2 omnis more like the cp-3 omnis? Does that question even make sense? :P

Nevermind, I think I understand. The cp-3's are more of a pressure transducer type capsule as opposed to a plain omnidirectional capsule that focuses more on the pattern alone and not the sonic detail???

Go to this page, scroll to the bottom, and look at the frequency response graphs... http://www.nakmics.com/nak-cm300.htm
The CP-3 is more flat out towards 20K than the CP-2, and it is less colored in the rear.  CP-2s were standard, CP-3s were accessories.
