Church Mics?
Welcome Kyle!

Church mics for stealth.
Do you ever tape open? Clubs, arenas, outdoors? you should evaluate your needs when it comes to omni/card/hyper caps...
You could also throw in the Church pre in the chain, although I don't know if it's needed strictly speaking.

After the upgrade bug bites you, you'll want to move over to lossless. The H120 is the next logical step.
As they say: "leave your wallet by the door" ;-)

Chris said use his ca-11 cardioids so I'm likely getting those. I never tape open btw!

now get another r70 and a splitter so you don't lose anything when disc flipping

the r70 is what I started out on.... I quickly learned I would need two if I wanted to have a worry free taping experience.
I used it with a samson mixpad 4... the recordings came out pretty good I think .... I did used to run the levels a little too hot.... I was not clipping the preamp, so it must have been the levels on the r70.... remember you have to go into rec pause to adjust these levels, and they can't be done on the fly (once recording has started).

Years later I got an RH1 which finally allowed me to upload my r70 recordings. Of course if you were to get an RH1 now, you could just use that to get a lossless recording from the get go (and perhaps use your r70 to patch the disc flips)

but alas the iRiver is a much better option than that whole mess, if your thinking of additional purchases. or easy, lossless uploading

I still have my r70's and they still work. Hey if ya want one I could let one go pretty cheap, say $40. And if you are ever thinking about trying out open taping, the mixpad is a good starter preamp. Operates on two or three 9v's (3 if using phantom) and supplies 18v of phantom. I also would be willing to let one of these go, as I have two.... brand new in box for $110, used for $60.

If you're dead set on sticking to MD, at least get one which allows setting levels on the fly, like these:

Or Sharp, which implemented this feature several years before Sony.

But if you got $150 spare, go for an iriver instead. You'll never look back! ;-)
