Is anyone using a Kata bag for gear? Since I'm upgrading my rig, figured a new bag was in order. My MountainSmith hip pack w/ the PortaBrace inside was nice, but no fun to fumble through. The Kata Sundo-1 is the nicest, (and priciest) most organized bags I've seen yet. Is anyone here using one? If so, are they worth the $$? Anyone know of something similar, but not so expensive? Thanks.

that looks like a nice bag.  i do not have experiece with kata for my audio rig (i use a lowe pro nova 4aw), but i use one for my video rig (Kata CC-191) and i love it.  i am able to keep everything mounted and plugged in if necessary for gun and run style or pack a bunch in there if i break things down.  well put together and sturdy.

 Sugarbush, I bought a Kata Sundo-1 a couple of months ago. If I  remember, I'll take some pics. It is extremely well made with a lot of room, dividers and false floor to run cables. I have a SD 302 and Fostex FR-2LE in it, plus a couple of wireless Lavs. It's big enough for a SD442 and SD744. I'm not using right angle connectors and there is room. I like it because it's very easy to pull out gear and reconfigure if you need to..... not all packed tight! Apparently they have "remodeled" that bag, and it doesn't look like the picture....pics looks like the bag is oval shaped... it's not. Not square, not rectangle...Looks like a camera bag. Clear window on top for water protection. Shoulder strap very comfortable ...It is expensive!
Don't consider the larger Sundo-2.....too big.

BRH- Thanks for the review. I will also be putting a FE-2le + mics, cables, etc. in it...good to know there is plenty of room. And the window at the top is the cat' s ass.   - Mike

I've been using a Kata Koala bag that I purchased used from the Yard Sale on this board.  Before that, I had been using a Portabrace mixer bag setup, which was quite nice, but I like the look, feel, and layout of the Kata bag as much if not more than the PB.
I don't know how it compares to the one you linked to, but if it's anything like the Koala, you'll love it I'm sure.

I also use a kata koala bag.  I have an R4 in the main pocket.   3 dvd batteries and a pelican case (1020 or 1040... don't remember which) in the middle section, and I keep clamps and other accessories in the pocket.  6 cables (25'x2 xlr, 10'x2 xlr, 10'x2 xlr-rca) are coiled, and kept on the nylon straps outside the pocket.  The xlr-xlr cables are plugged into the r4 at all times.   I love this bag, and I won't trade it for anything...  I've used a soniccase and a nova 4 before.

That is a nice one, and slightly less than the sundo-1. It's like a hip pack style bag, right? I'll add that to the list of possibles, thanks. -Mike
