perhaps...although I might also be referring to caps that attach with lemo connectors...

hmm... never heard of this trick and i'm having a hard time picturing it. so, instead of twisting the cap/collette clockwise you first twist the cap counterclock wise until you hear a click, then twist clockwise?

::knock on wood:: i'm very careful and have never cross threaded a cap collette...but doing the method above sounds like a safer option.

I know this is probably a VERY elementary suggestion, but there might be some younger people that have never heard this tip...

If you mate your capsule up to the body and twist them in the OPPOSITE direction from each other until you feel a click from the threads lining up with each other, the chances of cross-threading become almost zero. 

Also, of course you should NEVER EVER force a threaded connection.  If the thread starts binding on you, simply repeat the above.

I started faithfully doing this many many years ago and have never cross threaded anything since.

Great advise This is the best advise my ole man gave me as a kid and still use it today.

practice first with peanut butter jar, milk jug, snapple bottle-- just about anything threaded will have this same fail-safe
