I agree.  It really is a great interactive page!

The demo with the woodwind ensemble is really insightful.  I like the imagery with the mk4s in ORTF but the mk21 tonal qualities are pretty much the most accurate to my ears, at least with what I have playing on my computer at work thru a pair of Sennheiser HD424s.

Nice.  I like the fact you can change mics mid stream and truely hear the differences.

What a great learning tool.  I agree the ensemble was very insightful.  The omni's AB sounded best to me.  Thanks for posting this.

Wow...that should get a web "emmy"

totally incredible.

I see that they split omni's at 36cm.  Would this be optimal for taping PA's also (ie. festival shows)

I've always wondered how far I need to spit them without going overboard.

Especially interesting is Jurg's speaking on mics in general and why he believes a good mic 1) can recdord anything and 2) should have no coloration.   8)

A few Dead shows by small-weber and a gaswirt split mk2s at 8 feet on archive.  search it and discover yourself how amazing split omni schoeps sound in an open field PA situation.

GD 6/11/93 which is currently on bt.etree.org is a great example of a split omni recording (and the best first set of the 90's, btw....)

Kev, I run the bug eyes at around 39".. tuned by ear from my experience and doable with those light mics from one stand.  I'll send you that show someday, really ::) (needs some low eq).   When I saw this site I was actually surprised to see Europeans using that wide of an A-B omni spacing.  They generally consider us Americans crazy for using huge A-B spacings of 8, 10 or more feet, much less 1 meter.  I guess the roots of that preference goes way, way back to the US (Harvey Fletcher's spaced omnis at Bell Labs) -vs- European (Allan Blumlein's 8's & M/S at EMI) history of stereo.
