Edirol R-09 HR- Line In or Mic in- HEB
« on: June 09, 2008, 06:53:52 PM »
OK, I've searched through the threads on the board, and was wondering WITHOUT a pre-amp, and ONLY a battery box (Core Sounds currently) what I would use. Currently I have a HEB (Core Sounds equivalent of the DPA 4061) and was told to go Line-In with a Battery Box. I've read and spoken to to Edirol and they suggest Mic- IN , Low Sens. Because someone on this board I really trust suggested ONLY line in, I'm inclined to. But she sent me links that based on what I've read it's Mic-in with the battery box since the BB is only supply voltage to the mics. Your feedback and WHY you suggest using one or the other is appreciated- I'm sure that there are others with the same dilemna with the same setup-
TIA-

Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

Gotcha  :o  but, that is for the R-09- not the HR- and those are the links that state MIC-In that I've already referenced in my post ;-))

Go mic-in if you want to brickwall, especially at a high SPL concert.

I am a big fan of team Line In.

I've run mic-in at high-SPL shows (broken line-in) on the R-09.  No brickwalling.

You need to set lower levels, as the mic-in runs about 8dB hotter than the line-in.  I usually end up between 8 and 12 using the original R-09, using the same mics (DPA4060 (CSB HEB) ).

I don't know if the R-09HR will behave the same.
DPA 4060 (CS HEB) > CS BB > Edirol R-09

Backups:  DPA 4060 (1/8"), SP-BMC-2, SP-SPSB-6, Sony MZ-NH1

If you are to tape a loud music concert ( everything is loud today), there's no reason for you to go Mic In. Line In will be perfect. ;)
