JB3 transferring problem
« on: July 08, 2008, 05:07:13 AM »
Hi,
My computer doesn't seem to recognize the JB3.
I installed all the drivers and the Nomad Explorer as suggested in the JB3 guide.
When I open the Nomad Explorer it says "not connected".

Anyone who have had the same problem or who have an idea what to do?

Thanks,
Al

Try using the Creative Play Center. There is also a cheap program called Notmad that was once recommended to me. FYI, the Firewire is way way faster than the USB2 connection.

Can you tell us a little about your computer?
at work I have the internet and plugged in the JB3 and it found it but at home I don't have the net so when I plugged it in, it didn't work. I found the drives online at work and saved it on my flash drive to take home and install at home. Once I installed, I just plugged the JB3 in and waited a couple minutes and opened the my computer up. It showed right up without issue.
Maybe you should try re-installing the drivers. What drives are you using? I can provide you the drives I used...

my jb3s will periodically not be recognized immediately by windows

USB was giving me better connection than firewire {especially after I hooked up my firewire MOTU soundcard}.

Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting would do it.  Sometimes more than once.

It helps to be running the JB3 from the Wall adapter power, and not from internal batteries/battery pack while transferring.
Seriously, the band makes the music. Tapers just point mics in the right direction and hit "record".

That's good to hear!  The last patcher I had complained about my AKGs, fluffed schoeps for about 15 minutes, stayed patched in, and farted on me all night long.

I had many problems with the JB3.  Would sometimes connect, others not.  Sometimes wouldn't move files.  I used both Nomad Explorer and Notmad and neither made a difference.  So I sold the JB3 on ebay, and got some iriver h120's....I'll never buy another recorder that can't just be plugged in and recoginized.........

Just for the record, the JB3 supports USB1 only, not USB2. So of course FW should be leaps and bounds faster!
I can vouch for Notmad (from Redchair Software), it's the only way I can drag'n-drop files from the JB3 with ease. It's worth the money for sure.

everytime my CPU wouldn't recognize the JB3 it was b/c the batteries were too low. try the plugging it into the wall and hopefully it'll get recognized

Notmad Explorer by Red Chair Software is well worth the small fee and works great with the JB3 on a PC

if using Mac thre is a program called XNJB that works well but its only usb.1 transfers

I do remember the JB3 to be kinda finicky about connecting to the computer. I am pretty sure you have to have the firewire or usb cable plugged into the computer, and then you plug it into the JB3 while the JB3 is still turned OFF.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot everyone for all the good advices.
I tried re-installing the drivers, connected the JB3 to the power and after 10 or so tries with reconnecting the jb to the computer and turning it on and off, it finally worked. Now I'm ready to torrent my shows :).

I'm amazed how helpfully people are here even when newbies asks questions. Thanks everyone!

glad to hear you got it to connect, that's good news

i'll echo the sentiments about the red chair software, i was having a lot of trouble getting my jb3 to connect and spent $20 on this software and haven't had a problem since

I always like to mention Sveta Portable Audio by dbpoweramp

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/sveta-portable-audio.htm

Always has worked with both of my nomads - and has a nice interface...

Nice because it works with Ipods and other portable devices too...
