Mic Pre-Amp Question
« on: August 07, 2008, 09:09:09 PM »
Hello Folks, Started taping a few shows again.Running AT 897 Short Shotguns into PMD660, I also Have a Tascam DR1. Recorded Phil Lesh at GOTV and at Boston. Both with great results. Trying to get the best results with what I have, was wondering about using pre-amp with either recorder. Any input, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ML.

I guess the first question would be do you want to run an external preamp..if not, you could have the PMD660 modified to handle higher spl and with greater clarity than your stock unit.  if yes, you might want to consider a used Lunatec V2 or an Apogee MiniMP (if you can find one)...both have different flavors but equally pleasing.  It just depends on what your ears prefer.
