help me pick out a new editor-Mac
« on: July 23, 2008, 03:07:25 PM »
I've been using Sound Studio since I switched to mac, and it's worked just fine, but I'd like something a bit more robust with more legit plug-ins.  I'd like to find one where I can track my recording without having to use a separate program, good MS and compression plug-ins, preferably one with the UV22HR dither.  I really don't want to spend more than a few hundred, I was looking an an Academic version of Cubase 4 going for $199.00

Thoughts would be appreciated..

Have you given Wave Editor a try? They have a trial so you can see if it is to your liking.

What do you mean by this?  Just add markers > split by markers.  I use Logic to do mixing/editing, then use SoundStudio to track.

In terms of plug-ins and such.  You may not need a new editor, spend that dough on plug-ins.  Doesn't SS take both vst and au?

That's funny.  I posted this in the Team Mac board and got the same response.  I wasn't clear; I have been using Sound Studio to track and want that ability in my next editor, too.  I'll have to check out the brainworx, the soundhack keeps crashing (which makes sense I guess ;))

Thanks for the suggestions!

Jay is correct, but to fill that in...Apple built, at the core level, a tool for developers to make plug ins.  If you get a plug in that follows that standard (Audio Unit), then those plug ins will work in SS, and any future apps that support Audio Units (they just about all do, now).

Jesie, have you upgraded to 3.0 yet?  I did and have been pleasantly surprised.  considerably more robust. Not sure about the MS stuff just cause I don't have the mics for it. but you might want to look into it before jumping into something new.
