Dinged my MK8...what to do?
« on: October 11, 2008, 06:58:52 PM »
A few days ago I was testing cables and knocked over my stand by accident. As I'm packing up my rig for a show tonight, I realize the MK8 has a ding on the grill. The capsules themselves appear to be unharmed. That is they look okay to the eye. Is this a potential problem? Does anybody have a rough estimate as to the cost of sending it to Schoeps for repair?  :'(

Rough estimate according to Redding Audio: $100 - 250.  They say Schoeps runs this service as a bonus favor for the customers.  I think they damned well ought to fix the damned tings.  They build them.  Anyway, that is the cost quoted to me.

Cheers

Thanks for the input. I ran SBD+M/S (M/S from the stage lip) and all seems to be fine. I'll listen to the M/S alone just to be sure. It looks like it is indeed just cosmetic...I can live with that.

Dang.  That's a bummer.   You just better not mess up those pristine mk41's I sold you :P

Good to hear it sounds okay.  As delicate as the diaphragms are, it is tough to say whether the imact caused a change in tension, etc.  I have no idea what Schoeps does in that case or what it costs..

Luckily the 41's were safely tucked away. :)

its actaully redding that does it as a service to the customers. they deal with the import/export hassles and make little to nothing on it.
